Many people engaged with a local organization which provides support for burn survivors are thrilled about J.R. Martinez’s Dancing with the Stars Victory. Dancing with the Stars’ newest champion did not even need to lift the mirror-ball to be deemed a winner. On Tuesday, when Iraq War veteran J.R. Martinez hoisted the “Dancing with the Stars Mirror Ball, several injured warriors and burn victims walked away with the inspiration to carry on.
It is a fluke that J.R. Martinez, a former U.S. Army infantryman, is even alive today despite 40 percent of his body was severely burned in a landmine explosion while he was serving in Iraq in 2003.
Martinez, now 28, have continued to score the role of a veteran on ABC’s “All My Children.” The journey eventually landed him a spot on the Dancing with the Stars stage which culminated in him taking home the mirrorball Tuesday night. Martinez struggled with his emotions while receiving an award from other war veterans in 2009.
Martinez won the final Tuesday evening of “Dancing with the Stars” and gave people a new reason to watch – not because of his scars, but because he is a star.
