We should be aware of fact that the famous Pop star Annie Lennox has attacked the music industry for peddling “highly styled pornography” and accused some stars of misogyny.
However, the former Eurthymics singer lashed out in a post on her Facebook page where she said young girls were being bombarded with “sexualised imagery” in an attempt by record companies to make money.
And also the comments came as the row into the role of women in pop grows following a series of risque performances by stars such as Miley Cyrus, Kesha and Rihanna.
While, in a post on her Facebook page tonight Miss Lennox said: “I have to say that I’m disturbed and dismayed by the recent spate of overtly sexualised performances and videos. You know the ones I’m talking about.
“It seems obvious that certain record companies are peddling highly styled pornography with musical accompaniment.
“As if the tidal wave of sexualised imagery wasn’t already bombarding impressionable young girls enough.”
But earlier this week Miley was involved in a tit-for-tat argument with singer Sinead O’Connor who accused her of allowing herself to be “prostituted” by the music industry.
Notably, the accusation came after the former child star unveiled her latest music video which shows her provocatively licking a sledgehammer and swinging naked on a wrecking ball.
It is mentionable that Rihanna has also come under fire this week after the video for her latest song Pour It Up shows the singer gyrating on a chair in a jewel encrusted bikini. [ mirror.co.uk ]
