Pakistan has decided to boycott the coming Bonn Conference as a protest of US-led NATO Jet-helicopters which killed 24 troops on the border outposts, and have given a further blow to the Pak-US relations which were strained since May 2 when US commandos killed Bin Laden in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
The Bonn Conference is aimed at bringing together Western and regional leaders to map out a strategy for Afghanistan after the withdrawal of foreign combat forces in 2014. Despite Islamabad’s strong reaction, lodging protest, US high officials refused to apologize.
Like the past, without any progress, these attacks have continued in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. While CIA-operated drone attacks also keeps on going intermittently. US has always accused Pakistan of cross-border terrorism in Afghanistan. While, in the last few months, heavily-armed insurgents from Afghanistan’s side entered Pakistan’s region intermittently, targeting the security check posts, killing more than 100 personal of Pakistan’s security.
During her latest trip to Islamabad, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton emphasized on Islamabad to help “Taliban to enter negotiations in good faith” including the Haqqani militants. But despite the positive statements of Ms. Clinton to defuse the tensions in Pak-US relations, deliberate cross-border ground and air terrorism have continued by the US-led NATO forces on Pakistan, which are part of American duplicity with Islamabad.
In fact, these are deliberate aerial strikes on Pakistan as US wants to destabilize Pakistan as it is the only nuclear country in the Islamic World.
There is a co-relationship of stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Nonetheless, US such a strategy against Pakistan will further expedite extremism among the young men, turning them into suicide bombers, radicalizing a vast region, ultimately making Afghanistan insecure besides endangering the western interests. In this drastic situation, the main aim of the Bonn Conference to bring stability in Afghanistan will badly fail.
