Earthquake shakes the island nation of Tonga

 

An earthquake of-6.2 magnitude shakes the island nation of Tonga in the South Pacific, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

But there were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries. The 12:07 p.m. Friday (2307 GMT Thursday) quake was 8.6 kilometers (5.3 miles) below the surface, the USGS reported.

The USGS further pointed out that the quake was some 382 kilometers (238 miles) northwest of Neiafu,Tonga.
