Floods hit in South Korea at least 32 killed

Torrential rain hit the capital of South Korea Seoul and the surrounding area on  Monday, causing dozens of landslides and floods that killed at least 32 people. Moreover in the single accident , a landslide crashed into a mountain resort in Chuncheon, east of Seoul, destroying three small hotels, killing at least 13 people.

Another landslide in the outskirts of Seoul buried dozens of homes and killed at least 10 people, local media reported, adding that a villager had disappeared. A tributary of the Han river that runs Gonjiam, about 50 km (30 miles) south of Seoul, was overwhelmed and killed five people. In the Wild weather has hit the central region of the country since Tuesday night, causing rivers to bed, disrupting travel and cause power outages. More than 60,000 homes remained without electricity Wednesday night.

The share price of insurers fell on fears that the cost of damage amounting to tens of millions of dollars. In Chuncheon, about 100 km (60 miles) east of Seoul, the soldiers were drafted to help in rescue operations after a wall of mud flattened a small hotel just after midnight.
