Afghan troops and NATO-led fire rockets in the tribal areas of Pakistan’s North Waziristan on Friday.Residents said that about 18 mortar shells landed near a checkpost of the security forces in the border area of Ghulam Khan, adding the security forces returned fire.
The incident took place a day after leaders of Pakistan, Afghanistan and NATO military met in Peshawar to discuss the prevention of recurrence of cross-border shootings.The 55 security forces were killed and 80 wounded in five attacks in border areas of Dir and Mohmand tribal Batzaour in a month.
In addition, security forces killed 11 militants and destroyed several more militant hideouts in an operation in Kurram Agency.
The militants have sought refuge in areas Pungi, Spairkut Qrut Central Intelligence Agency and Kurram. Seven soldiers were wounded in the operation. These areas have been cleared of militants.
