Carnage for the actress Kate Winslet is an attractive holiday island has turned into a nightmare when, during a tropical storm, a fire destroyed her home where she lived with her family.
The Oscar-winning actress was staying in the Great House on Necker Island – other than Richard Branson’s private getaway known in the British Virgin Islands – when the fire broke out.
Branson said he was at another property about 100 yards (meters) with his wife Joan and his son Sam, 25. He said the fire broke out at 04.00 clock in a thunderstorm and wind, and Sam was able to help evacuate Winslet and other guests of the house.
“Kate Winslet, her friend and her family were there and some of his friends were holly and stay,” said Branson. “My mother was there and she managed to go out and it’s fine.”
Branson has several houses on the island, including an exclusive eco-resort. “We will all be here now,” he said. “There are a lot of damage and we will not be able to hold him so.” A spokesman confirmed the actress Kate Winslet and her family were safe.
