Peru earthquake shakes central coast

An earthquake of 6.9-magnitude shakes Peru’s central coast forced people running panic into the streets on Friday. Four years ago, in cities were badly damaged by a powerful quake.

However, there are no reports of damage, but hospital sources confirmed at least 20 injuries. People who had lost loved ones and homes in the earlier quake were badly shaken and some broke into tears.

The Survey of U. S. Geological says 31 miles (50 kilometers) of Ica was centered at a depth of 9.2 miles (15 km). The location is 186 miles (299 kilometers) south of Lima.

Earthquake yesterday was much less violent in Lima, a city of 8.5 million people. The capital shook for about 30 seconds in a series of moderate swinging.
