Surprisingly, you know how we feel about the Grammys and the American Music Awards and pretty much all other music award shows and their relationship to good music — zero correlation.
However, but the best nominations for the 2012, American Music Awards ceremony which marks its 40th anniversary this year Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Linkin Park were among the winners at the 40th annual American Music Awards on Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.
Notably, the two former artists lead the pack with four individual nods, Bieber, his mentor Usher, Maroon 5, Drake and the group One Director each earned three nominations. Other nominees include Rihanna’s ex Chris Brown, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry and Pitbull. Justin Bieber’s wins included the show’s top award, artist of the year.
While, Bieber mom joined him onstage as he collected the trophy, beating out Rihanna, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and Drake.
Nonetheless, the 18-year-old singer also won the honor in 2010. Bieber alleged it is “hard growing up with everyone watching me” and asked that people continue to believe in him.
