On the same day on Thursday, two earthquakes in the United States have taken place. The first earthquake took place in Texas, the epicenter of which—being near rural Karnes County, 47 miles southwest of San Antonio.
The quake was a 4.8 magnitude, which was eye-opening because it was a record breaker. The earthquake Thursday night came after a 4.0 earthquake hit in the same area nearly six hours earlier. Berkeley police said that they have no reports of damage or injuries from these quakes.
Blakeman also said it is impossible to predict whether there will be aftershocks. The earthquake was large enough to accommodate a few small aftershocks and small enough that they produce are not necessarily expected.
Earthquakes occur Thursday nearly 22 years to the day after the Loma Prieta earthquake in the Bay Area during the 1989 World Series.
The 6.9-magnitude earthquake killed 63 people, injured nearly 3,800 and caused up to $ 10 billion loss.
